I took part in a discussion on the Scottish government's new economic paper last night. It was a good discussion:

Why do all you old crusty’s like to be filmed with a library in the background?.. you think it means you are more intelligent?? it is such a cliché.. what is shoes more than anything else is you lack real world experience, you should do real work..
I have a library in my office
It’s what goes with doing real work of my sort
Do you have a problem with education?
But you don’t teach students!! you do no teaching at all.
I have taught students
Be assured Richard you are still teaching. Reaching a larger body now online and broadcasting than ever in a traditional place of learning. You have my thanks – if not Pete’s.
And I love being nosey on other people’s bookcases. Get a crick in the neck trying to read the titles!
Pete’s rude post does have a slight truth, but I did not like his agressive manner. Most posts are indeed sent with a bookcase behind. It has been known for specific titles being given pride of pace and full face in order to show Boris Johnson in a bad light – I can’t remember the precise occasion, but I do remember my happy smirk!
Maybe we shall all lose a little when books have finally been cast into history, What should the backdrop be then?
It would seem Pete is a frustrated Right Winger who has just seen everything he has believed in trashed . Consigned to the dustbin of history. It is now revealed beyond peradventure the last 43 years following the tenets of the Austrian lunatic have led us to this catastrophe. He doesnt have anything sensible to contribute so he resorts to vituperative personal attacks. Carry on Richard . I am 82 but I learn from you all the time.
Thanks
I try to make out which books there are about trains behind you but I think that you’ve probably got them stashed somewhere else more relaxing – another room or the shed maybe?
You are right
That lot are all economics, accounting, tax and philosophy
People reading books so they can furnish themselves with an knowledge and an educated opinion. What’s the world coming to?
