I am planning to take this weekend, including Monday, off the blog. It's been a frantic period and I need a break.
I will leave comments on but anything remotely abusive, racist, Stalinist or otherwise extreme will be deleted, so please don't waste your time posting it because I am really very bored with those who have no time for democracy or decency.
Thanks for reading this post.

Roger and out.
We’re going for bike ride on Monday – so there!
Me too! I’ll be enjoying the Monarch’s roads in Holyrood Park as a sign of respect for my wellbeing.
You fully deserve it Richard – some of the comments you have allowed onto the blog have been disgraceful and I suspect we haven’t seen all of them. One ray of sunshine to me on Friday night was seeing an article by Clive Lewis in the Guardian re. the monarchy – I expect he’ll get told off for it! We’re off to the Highlands Saturday and hope to be near Loch Ossian on Monday, about as far away from media / internet / phone coverage as possible! Have a good extended weekend!
Thanks
I think I am finally over the post Covid infection but need some time off to reflect
And yes there were more comments, more offensive
Have a good break, and please try and make it a real break!
I too was heartened to see that at least one Labour MP was willing to speak out. Full marks to Clive Lewis. For anyone who missed it, the link is here: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/sep/16/mourning-republicans-system-privilege
And now this morning, a superb piece by George Monbiot at his best, demolishing the ‘doctrine’ of neoliberalism of which he says (among much else – all worth reading):
“The doctrine has religious, quasi-Calvinist aspects: in the kingdom of the market we can see who is deserving and who is undeserving through the grace bestowed upon them by the god of money. Any policy or protest that seeks to disrupt the formation of a natural order of rich and poor is an unwarranted stay upon the divine will of the invisible hand” and
“For Labour, it sets boundaries that cannot be crossed, for fear of punishment by the billionaire press. As our politics has turned further and further towards neoliberalism’s glittering certainties, any deviation from the doctrine is akin to blasphemy. ”

All best wishes Richard – enjoy your well-deserved break and come back refreshed.
Thanks
Both good articles
I think you’ve said that before.
Good luck and enjoy your break.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend off. I’ve been very glad for all of your posts, you deserve a decent break. Please have some fun! Best wishes to you.
Thanks for all the informative facts. Take a proper well deserved break. I am also on a bike ride Monday avoiding everything if possible.
I’ll be washing next doors cat on Monday.
It doesn’t know that yet….
I am just going to say this: doing nothing is a discipline too! Now go do nothing 🙂
“What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.”
Glad you are taking a well-earned break, Richard.
Yes Richard, time off is good for the soul, make it a regular habit, especially for all your hard work which is much appreciated.
I hope you’re having a lovely weekend off, with plenty of time for the things and people you most enjoy. Thank you, as ever, for all your hard work here!
