I liked this:
'I have had enough of being told by shadowy old businessmen and lazy, ignorant hacks – who aren't real scientists – that the science is wrong.'
Andrew Marr's furious response to those dismissing the climate crisis, as the UK faces a record-breaking heatwave.@AndrewMarr9 pic.twitter.com/ZTOHb50Dy7

Brilliant. Well said, Andrew Marr. A substitute teacher at my granddaughter’s school told her class not to watch a programme about climate change as it’s all rubbish. I am appalled that this man is teaching. Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring was written in the 40s.
I normally sit on a wall in my garden and count the butterflies for the Big Butterfly Count. It’s 46 degrees out there now, so I won’t bother today.
Wasn’t it the 60s?
Yes, sorry. She started working on it in the mid 40s. Modern equivalent is Naomi Klein’s This Changes Everything, which I am reading at the moment.
Rachel Carson was vilified by the chemical industry as she showed the effects of DDT and other chemicals. Her work was dismissed because she was a woman and also she was accused of being disloyal to America. The same sort of things we hear today.

To put it all into perspective…

Our species and many MANY others are pretty much buggered unless we change our whole perspective on what matters – collectively and individually.
Hopefully people are starting to wake up to this fact, but sadly I think we’ve a long way to go.
The short-term interests of a tiny few massively outweigh the interests of the whole planet, they currently have all the power and influence.
We must put an end to that.
On the surface of the Earth only insects and microorganisms and primitive plants with very short reproduction cycles or which are able to enter a dormant state are likely to survive. For all other surface species there will not be time to adapt to the new environment. Some deep sea fish may survive although the seas will become much more acidic.
The Earth itself will carry on OK and in a few billion years there may not be much evidence that we had ever been here.
Well said Andrew Marr, excellent porayal of where we are at on climate right now
Bloody brilliant!!
Thanks for sharing.
and an unlawful net zero policy too

Why is it that every gain the ordinary person makes has to be crowd funded? I an pleased that the court has said that the government has to pay GLP’s costs.
“I’m a tolerant and gentle person”.
I’m not.
Back in 2007 I was asked by a Japanese corporation (& eventually by a Japanese government agency) to produce monthly reports on actions by the EU in terms of reducing green house gas emissions. The work finished in 2016 – but led on to other things. I have posted before on “enlightenment” – it is not a happy process. & producing the reports was “not a happy process”
What Marr is saying became plain to me by 2009. The Copenhagen COP was one of but many total & utter failures (Miliband – you were partly responsible for that failure).
In fairness to Marr, he worked for the BBC & it must have been hard to get acquainted with “the real world” – after all it would have required blinker removal.
The imbeciles that want to become PM, don’t know enough or choose not to. The recent UK Auction Round 4 (AR4) showed that any renewable deployed in the Uk is by far cheaper than anything else on offer including re-purposed nuclear submarine reactors (Small modular reactors – SMRs – where do you think they come from?). The PM wannabees talked about selling these to Poland. Really? That would be the Poland that is building out off-shore wind as fast as possible – that Poland? Or that PV in Finland (yes that Finland) is cheaper than nukes or fossil. Sure, no solution in winter – but there is also wind, &, in fairness biomass. So it’s nice to see somebody like Marr finally getting some understanding.
My support goes to the heroes stoving in the windows of News International. If Marr & co (& the BBC) had not given so much time to “balance” the Uk would be far far further down the adaption and renewable track than it is. & we would not hear the blather & bullshit from PM wannabees that we do.
It seems Marr like others always knew the real world and had had enough nit talking about it
