The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales has this morning announced those who it thinks the leading social media influencers in the accountancy field in 2021 are. This is the list:
I am pleased to have won for the third year in a row.

To think I knew you before you were famous. Ho Ho.
Seriously Well done and well deserved.
Thank you
That is an amazing hat trick Richard. Well done – it is well deserved.
Thanks
Increasing my Twitter following from 60,000 to 92,000 in a year – a lot more than the ICAEW has and more than three of the Big 4 in the UK – did help
What did it? Writing educational threads on Twitter more than anything else
I’m very pleased. This is very re-assuring. Well done!
Thanks
Well deserved, as always, Richard. There’s certainly no less ‘zing’ and gravitas to your blogs than there was when I first started reading TRUK back in 2010, and the dual strategy of being on Twitter too has certainly paid off in terms of your reach and impact.
On a related note, I see that one of the issues you’ve consistently championed (and I don’t mean just in the past few months) – the need for a progressive alliance to beat the ‘rules don’t apply to us’, Tory party – is getting plenty of coverage after the excellent result from North Shropshire. Of course, one Swallow doesn’t make a summer as you well know (though if the decline in the number of Swallows coming to our shores continues that might sadly be the case sooner rather than later). But certainly with the Tories plan for a one party, authoritarian state, becoming ever more obvious, and with many of those policies set to be unleashed against the populace of this country next year, perhaps this time around a progressive alliance can stand the vanity and self interest that’s always sunk the actual delivery of the idea in the past. In the true spirit of RM I’ll try to remain hopeful 🙂
Go well Ivan
Well deserved without reservation or hesitation.
Thanks!
Congratulations. Well deserved i’d say.
For the hard work, maybe!
Well done and well deserved!
Thanks
Congratulations
Delighted. It’s well-deserved. You’ve opened my eyes not only to what is happening ‘out there’ in terms of government finance, but what SHOULD be happening to get things back on track.
Thanks
Now 92,001 on Twitter!
Thanks
Very well done, Richard. Your plain language explanation of MMT and exposés of political misinformation has been an eye-opening education for lay people such as myself. Equally enlightening and ire inducing.
Please take care of yourself. Nil illegitimi carborundum.
Thanks
And they do try to grind me down – but as often from tax justice these days as anywhere else…..
They will not succeed
Congratulations. Well done.
I have learned a great deal over three year from your writing, Unfortunately, the Bank of England failed to do so.
Give it time…..
Well done, Richard. I am truly delighted for you personally and for the ‘reach’ you have in challenging received opinions and gaining traction amongst those who are willing to question and change their assumptions. Top man!
Thanks Peter
Well merited award – again! I share your distaste/horror (take your pick) at the way auditing and accounting standards have been traduced in recent times, not to mention standards of government, management of the economy, regulation of the regulators etc etc. I’m also in awe of your daily output and the rigour of your arguments. A sane voice in an increasingly deranged world.
Thanks Ken
The reality is that this blog sees only a small part of my output – but the rest involves fewer words for the effort expended!
