The government’s green job promise is completely hollow

Posted on

The government claimed to launch a plan to deliver 2 million green jobs by 2030 yesterday. It said:

The UK government today (12 November 2020) set a clear ambition to create 2 million green jobs by 2030, launching a new Green Jobs Taskforce to set the direction for the job market as we transition to a high-skill, low carbon economy.

The only funding mentioned that has been made available is just £3 billion. That is £1,500 for each new job they claim to want to create.

I could spend hours discussing superficiality of this plan, whilst comparing it with Labour's more comprehensive proposal, and what is really needed, which would cost vastly more. But I doubt that further analysis is necessary.

There is not a person on earth who thinks that a new job can be created in the UK for an investment of £1,500. That is not possible.

And by making such a ludicrous aspersions it is possible to see straight through the government's claim and commitment, which is completely hollow.
