The TUC has published a map showing the loss in average earnings by UK employees since the Global Financial Crisis of 2008.
Britain needs a pay rise and that's not on every party's agenda at the forthcoming election. It should be. But some prefer exploiting labour to rewarding it. That's an unacceptable choice that has gone on for too long.

Hi i work for Evans Halshaw DAF who are owned by Pendragon PLC. Some of the guys here havent had a pay rise in 10 years. Not even 1%.
The wage has now almost dropped to the living wage. It used to be an OK paid job. If you ask they say no and if your not happy about it there is the door. Its not locked. How big companys get away with it is a disgrace. We are told they dont recognise unions. Some people have been there 15 to 20 years who are forced to leave to get another job so they can pay the bills. They dont want to go but have to as they cant afford to stay. Nobody challanges these people. If they had to publish their average pay rises it would show the world how they take advantage of their staff for profit.

It’s a shame they do not show percentages as well as it looks life is terrible in London but Wales is not doing too badly, whereas the reality is more likely the other way around.
@Charles. My son lives in London my daughter in Wales. There are better opportunities in London but rent continues to go up by larger increases than in Wales. So I am told, in Wales it’s not easy to move job whilst retaining security and a sufficient pay rise.
Globally, because of technical change etc. and rapidly rising population it is likely that the mean earnings are going to decline steadily, the age of plenty for all is ending. There will be some lucky/hot spots here and there, but I fear the UK will not be among them. The nearest could be Monaco, which more or less takes us back to the Edwardian age.

But how we define plenty might need to change
Last night a small group of us had a chat about this at work.
We included the office cleaner who was on £8.35 per hour and whom thought she should be on £10.00 in order to keep up.
It turns out that her daughter works for a senior citizen care company and is on a zero hours contract. The cleaner is worried that Labour’s plans to end zero hours contracts will lead to her daughter having no job at all. As a result she will not be voting Labour!
The fear was palpable and perhaps gives us an indication of what is going on in the electorate and why the Tories may still win.
