Tax evasion in the Cayman Islands? Surely not…

This headline in Accountancy Age made me smile for a number of reasons:

Why? First of all because HMRC are doing something about tax evasion.

Secondly, because the fact that the letters can even be sent proves that automatic information exchange - something I and others in the tax justice movement have campaigned for over a long time - works to beat tax evasion.

And thirdly, well because for so long Cayman has said no one uses the place for tax evasion and I have always said otherwise. It's nice to say 'told you so' sometimes. This is one of them.
