A year ago the Compass think tank published its Plan B for the economy. I was one of the authors. Together the authors rejected austerity as a way forward and set out a plan for a new economic agenda.
A year on Compass has now published Plan B + 1. Written by my friend and sometimes colleague Howard Reed, it makes clear that we were right to argue for Plan B a year ago, and now need to go further as the problem of recession is getting worse and the need for action gets ever more pressing.
The conclusion of the report says this, but I suggest it's worth reading the whole thing:

In the 1970’s we could not “rebuild” the previous economy and associated social fabric because both the world and its economies had changed so radically we had to construct something else which was quite different. In the second decade of the 21st Century having made far too many mistakes with the subsequent models we are faced with the new challenge of not just “renewing” but how to deal with a new and very different world.
While i agree that something needs to be done, i feel the answer is not going to come from individuals who produce documents in two column format. Sorry to say.
