Conservative indifference to offshore

Posted on

I have an article in the London Evening Standard today (on which more, later) in which I say the Tories are doing some things right on taxation, even if their own members don't agree.

But for the sake of balance, let me put the record straight. The Conservative's own use of offshore as reported by the Daily Telegraph is wholly unacceptable. George Osborne may not like stamp duty, but avoiding it very publicly is wholly inappropriate behaviour by a party that has aspirations on power.

If the Tories want to be taken seriously they have to be squeaky clean. And offshore is always, without exception, dirty when used to avoid tax.
