In 1996 David Davis was in John Major's government. He was interviewed by the EC's in-house newspaper (Commission en Direct). The article is here.
This is the most interesting bit, perhaps, but there is plenty more to enjoy:
Settled for good, eh?
Would he like to add anything to that now?
Hat tip to Mike Parr.

To be fair to Davies the EU in 2016 is not what it was in 1996 and politicians are allowed to change their views. I’ve a little time for the man who is as dry as yesterday’s toast and ultra right on most issues, but he does stand up for civil liberties which could bring him into conflict with his new boss if she pursues her Snoopers’ Charter.
Interesting. Davis is halfway competent – perhaps a little less – and thereby stands head and shoulders above the ‘Leave’ leaders, who have mostly left or been ejected.
Davies is probably the most credible of May’s cabinet appointments.
He’s an avowed admirer of Winston Churchill; but I do not see him as a defender of Churchill’s greatest postwar achievement, the European Convention on Human Rights.
