You’re getting into this venn diagram thing to represent the immorality of our neo-feudal society – keep going and you could publish a book of them!
The bedroom tax is almost beyond belief in its reckless absurdity and ‘flowered’ out of the dung heap of Government propaganda designed to vilify some of the poorest and needy in our community and channel the ire of the hard pressed ‘working.’ Rachel Rolnik, the UN rapporteur on housing issues has delivered a upper-cut to the mealy-mouthed jaws of the Government in here outspoken disgust with the policy. Shapps criticised her for calling it the ‘bedroom Tax’ and insist on using the euphemistic ‘spare room subsidy’ but it is also know as ‘the underoccupncy penealty.’ What a mess! I’m still fighting it with the help of Liberty solicitors-unfortunately the British public is still swallowing the neo-lib propaganda. Rolnik was bang on when she expressed outrage at the poorest paying for the calamitous mistakes of the rich.
Mr. M., you’re not going to like this but….
….in the area I live, not especially well off, jobs tricky to come by, lots of jobs involving manual work…..
…..the support for the Spare Room Subsidy / Bedroom Tax (take yer pick) and the Benefits Cap is widely supported, especially by those on low incomes who see ‘the bone idle’ (for want of a shorthand description) getting more for ‘doin’ nowt, than those of us buggers workin”.
As to some person from Brazil – supposedly in charge of housing there – lecturing the likes of the UK given the state of Brazil’s slums and general standard of housing…..
…..well forgive me if I don’t take her extremely Left-wing rantings too seriously.
I accept that there has been a neoliberal creation of hegemonic thinking through the capture of the media
That’s why things like this blog are so important
Allen – the reason people in work feel skint is because the banks created a massive housing bubble thereby crippling our economy and vacuuming wealth from our communities -and you think the poorest of us and the ill should pay for this? The Tories want you to think this because they intend to do it again and enrich themselves further.
