Say you want country-by-country reporting

ONE have launched a petition calling on European leaders to stand up to extractive industry pressure and support a strong country-by-country reporting law the petition is available — in English, French and German — it's started well with over 30,000 signatories, there is an live tally of how many people have signed so you can check it .

Please boost that number even further, and put real pressure on Ministers in Europe ahead of the Council meeting on the 20th February when they are going to consider country-by-country reporting.

    It is not acceptable for the ordinary citizen who pays their tax that it is possible for wealthy individuals to hide untaxed money in secret bank accounts in overseas jurisdictions. If everyone paid the tax they owed then the rate of taxation for all could be reduced – not just the rich elite.

    By allowing tax evasion, encouraging it even, you are depriving the needy of essential services.

    Country-by-country reporting would provide information to a wide range of stakeholder groups which will strengthen efforts to monitor corrupt practices, corporate governance and responsibility, tax payments, and world trade flows. And it would also benefit investors by revealing which corporations operate in politically unstable regimes, tax havens, war zones, and other sensitive areas. It would also enable citizens of developing nations to determine who owns the companies that are trading in their countries, what tax is being paid and whether that appears reasonable in relation to the tax rates in the country in question.

    Thanks a lot for reporting this initiative. I however had a look at the program of the upcoming Council of the European Union : http://www.consilium.europa.eu/uedocs/cms_data/docs/pressdata/en/fc/127935.pdf
    But I could not find a trace of this topic on the agenda.
    Generally speaking, I could not find a trace of any further official discussion at EU level on this topic since the publication of the results of the consultation in April 2011.
    Do you have more information?
