What a great pity that wasn’t a film of Ed Miliband giving that speech, Richard, flanked by the entire Shadow Cabinet.
White Flag Labour? Probably the most accurate term I’ve come across in a while – sadly.
Ann Coote said ‘the government must be courageous”. Would be a really good title for a book…say “The Courageous State”! Oh! there is one.
And the German European example? A better one than the Wall Street model which our politicians seemed tied to.
I can tell you contributed because of the empty talk about jobs and the multiplier effect (you have called this simplistic economics when I have referred it) without reference to who does those jobs – i.e. the ONS information that 90% of jobs created go to migrants.
Yes. It certainly has your touch.
The effects on the economy are noted – of increased welfare payments from unemployment, lack of tax take etc. but how many times is this multiplied up when the jobs that are available go to migrant workers – no tax, and exported earnings.
Importantly, until this is recognised by people like you, NEF, the Labour Party, unions – it will not be addressed in structural change.
And the economy will continue to sink.
Irresponsible.
