Larry Elliot's Guardian write-up today with his account of John McDonnell's trip to Davos six years ago — when Jeremy Corbyn's shadow chancellor pledged to stick it to the “global elite” by telling said elite they were “held in contempt.” Reeves will today tell those same “members of the global elite” that “Labour intends to restore Britain's reputation as a place to do business.” It's been a journey.
Quite a journey.
Most of it has been in the wrong direction.
Labour was on the side of people.
Now, it's on the side of wealth and those who fleece the people.

McDonnell now sounds like a very sensible elder statesman compared to the rabid Conservative govt.
As a tactic he would have been better advised to sound moderate and sensible at Davos , pointing out the vastly expanding difference between rich and poor, but – that we all – rich and poor – need functioning public services and ‘we all want to contribute our fair share so the level of poverty is reduced..dont we’?
He might even have got some of the ‘tax our wealth’ mob on board.
As for Reeves pathetic, ignorant, …..ultimately self destructive….

I find Reeves unremittingly depressing. What a dismal place Starmer’s UK will be, and especially for the old, the poor, the poorly, and the young.
There is nothing in her comments or attitudes that give rise for any optimisim.
She’s been singing the same growth tune for over ten years now. It’s a word salad.
I cannot believe her Chancellorship will benefit the country, let alone those most in need.
Her ‘analysis’ and prescriptions, classic neoliberalism, have aready failed for more than a decade.
More houses on flood plains and in the Green Belt, eh ?
How can rinse and repeat not yield the same flatlining or declining economy ?
You are not alone in finding Rachel Reeves unremittingly depressing. What I find even more depressing is that she seems to be the de facto leader of the Labour Party.
Don’t you want internationally businesses to locate to the U.K.? It might not affect you but it will plenty of others who look for skills and training and a career progression.
Big business largely locates in a place because of the rule of law, quality of infrastructure and the quality of people in a jurisidiction, meaning that they fit, well trained and can get to work. In other words, they love good government. That’s wat Rachel Reeves needs to deliver. Austerity, which she is promising, plus Brtexit intransigence, is pushing people away. Now, why don’t you want that?
My point is you seem to be slating Reeves for her comment “Labour intends to restore Britain’s reputation as a place to do business.” .. my point again is this seems an obvious and positive objective. You seem to disagree with that objective judging by your opening post.

Labours hope that the exploitation of the county’s citizens will lead to more tax income is an idea made in hell.
Will Ms Reeves also serve prawn cocktails? That was Gordon Brown’s ‘pro business’ initiative, as I recall.
And then PFI and PPPs…
Sounds like Reeves wants the whole UK to be a PFI.
