How on earth are you going to keep people quiet if there is no enemy ‘threatening us all’. We will always have a ‘Ministry of Peace’ to keep us in a state of perpetual war.
Q. The most popular political policy?
A. We can vote out politicians
(though in my opinion, not as quick and easy enough)
Unfortunately it’s probably more 99% want to live with peace within their borders. Waging war on another country is clearly supported by many in MAGA, etc, so a double-digit percentage minority seemingly do want war.
MAGA are opposed to war…that is why Trump is alienating them by waging it
Somewhat – stats on the proportion of the US that support his foreign policy, etc, are lower than MAGA supporters, but there’s still a significant proportion that seem willing to support Trump no matter what promises (including world peace) are broken.
@David Burton
Marjorie Taylor Greene, poster girl for the true MAGAts, has turned against over the bombing Iran. Other MADAts will too!
Trump is in deep do-do with his base. The “swing voters” will be the first to abandum him.

Great!
Why won’t politicians try living in peace? Because those defence company share dividends simply won’t pay themselves.
Why, because after the many forms of slavery War is the most profitable for wealth, power and prestige so the elites keep brokering war. It has always been that way and ordinary folk do not necessarily realise it. Till they do wars will continue. Educating ordinary folk better is the solution ultimately.

But it is most profitable because it captures the tax revenues of other nations…
OK, Richard, you’ve persuaded me that I should have hope! My previous post on why I didn’t was written whilst I was tired and profoundly angry. I give in. Hope it is.
Unless, of course, the Bill on slashing disabled people’s income gets through. Thank you very much, btw, for doing a full post on that. I’m really grateful.
No one, once they are in power, wants peace. The companies such as Palantir fill their minds with wonder and lots of pretty colours sparkling in their eyes. Palantir tell you anything is possible – they are like the Pied Piper of Hamelin, playing seductive and beautiful music, promising a land free of enemies. Politicians are powerless to resist; not least because they wouldn’t recognise a neural network if they fell over one. Hypnotised, they follow the glorious pipes into the mountain – a morals-free zone where anything can happen.
Money. Crises and enemies created by detached, unethical seasteaders, who have the messianic light of conquest in their eyes. “This is your enemy – look, he’s different from you. He’s against what you stand for, and he’ll use that to attack you. We can prevent that happening. Buy our weapons!!”
Oops. Mislaid that “hope” thing again……
🙂
I have to live in hope or I would despair
Pilot Officer Tony Benn never gave up Hope.

I read a lot of Bertram Russell’s writings in my mid to late teens and still find myself in agreement with his views. That a lasting peace is more than the absence of war and that peace needs to be actively pursued. That humanity needs to make a conscious choice to renounce war and work towards a world without conflict and that this can only achieved by addressing the root causes of war – nationalism and the pursuit of power.
I, as Russell did, reject nationalism and although I firmly believe we have a moral obligation to actively work towards peace to protect both ourselves and future generations I’ve never really got to grips with how

Fear of war is just another way of imposing fear on the people. People who fear are easier to control.
Since the 1970s I have noticed how we have always something to be fearful of, whether it be, recession, unemployment, inflation, austerity, or war, the result is the same. We are kept in check.
