I took some comfort from this report this morning in The Guardian:
The former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has been taken into custody after the international criminal court issued a warrant for his arrest for his so-called “war on drugs”.
The former leader, who will turn 80 this month, is accused by ICC prosecutors of crimes against humanity over his anti-drugs crackdowns, in which as many as 30,000 people were killed. Most of the victims were men in poor, urban areas, who were gunned down in the streets.
I am pleased for the families of those who were illegally killed. There might be some justice for them.
I am pleased for those who believe in the rule of law: the gun is no alternative.
I am pleased, too, that the ICC has teeth.
Perhaps I am most pleased that a fascist might not get away with their crimes.
There are valuable messages in here in a world where few valuable messages are getting out right now.

I was happy to note that. But then thought that Russia, Israel and the USA do not recognise the ICC — so some if the worst scumbags might remain immune from the rule of law …………
But they can’t travel in that case.
It’s Jair Bolsanaro from Brazil whom I’m looking forward to seeing get his come-uppence – thug that he is.
Each time someone IS taken to the Hague, it highlights the unbalanced nature of the court, because of those who are NOT taken there.
But – good. I am grateful. Murder and thuggery are being challenged.
