I love teasels. There is something intensely satisfying about them.
Mind you, I shocked myself on an electric fence getting that photo earlier today. The compensation was that moments later several flocks of fieldfare flew over. It is definitely autumn.
The location was Kingfisher Bridge nature reserve, as is often the case for me on a Sunday, but more inland this time. The view is over the reed beds.

It’s been a lovely day for photography I must say.
It was a great blue sky at that moment, so I shot from low down to intensify it.
Don’t do what I did though, we had a few in the garden some years ago which we left for the Goldfinches. When they had done with them, I cut them down and ran over them with the lawn mower to mulch them a bit before putting in the compost. Now we have about ten thousand or so…………..

There are lots of teasels round here as a relic of the textile industry. A few years ago, I saw them in use in a local mill to raise the nap on the finest quality camel hair coating. I was told nothing man-made could do the job as well as teasels.
I didn’t know that. They are extraordinary structures.
They were also used for removing grit and other foreign objects from textiles. I believe this is the origin of the the expression to tease out.
