On a depressing morning, I took a walk.
Butterflies were, finally, out in abundance this morning:
Red admirals, tortoiseshells, comma, gatekeeper, common white and meadow brown were all about. Great to see, because they have been seen in such small numbers so far this year.

Lucky you. All ready to do the butterfly count but they haven’t arrived yet. Saw a white getting blown over my garden but it didn’t land. Haven’t seen many on the cycle track, either, so far this year. Just watched a sparrow trying to land on the hedge but it was blown away before it could get a purchase on a branch.
Agreed. Three stunning red admirals on our buddleia just now.
Also saw white admirals and skippers in numbers in our local nature reserve last week.

Nice picture, it has been a little windy in Northumberland to see any butterflies today.
I wonder if all the chaos in markets and out government is caused by excessive butterfly wing flapping?

Sir Kier’s interview on BBC today confirms that neither major party either haas a clue what they are doing, or wants “us” to understand it.

Seen commas and red admirals here in south yorks, but hardly a peacock – just one tattered one. Seen no tortoiseshells whatsoever. So many gardens around me have been Titchmarshed – gravel, decking, concrete and flags… awful. No butterfly bushes have butterflies on them any more. Plastic grass next door. What is wrong with the world? Who pays that man anyway – B and Q? Yes, the parties don’t seem to have a clue what is going on: or don’t care. Insulated by wealth. Please keep posting, it is helpful to keep me alert and stop me going zombie.
There’s a garden two doors away from me which had a poster out for a company that will do lawn, hedge and tree management. The problem is that the garden itself has artificial grass back and front and the hedges that had wrens and sparrows in them have been managed out of existence, as have the trees.
The man in charge knocked on my door last week and asked if I wanted any work doing to my garden. He asked if I’d seen his sign and couldn’t understand why I was laughing at him. I asked him to look at the bees on the clover in the lawn and listen to the sparrows in the hedge, then told him I was quite happy with my overgrown hedge at the moment, thank you.

I go for a walk on my local beach with my dogs. Really helps to clear my head from depressing thoughts.

Excuse my ignorance but, do banks have to increase the interest on variable loans because of BOE rate increase?
Surely if happy with lower rate why increase? Have their interest costs gone up?
Here in France no variable all fixed. So no effect or increase when interest rate goes up.

Basically because the BoE sets the inter-bank rate because of the vast sums the banks hold with it they all have little choice but follow the BoE interest rate tune
That, and the fact the BoE regulates and licences them so they know they must obey
Yo do right, we recharge our batteries by walking in the Dales most Saturdays. Just before lockdown we descended from Caopplestone Gate into a filed of Painted Lady butterflies, autonishing.
Saw my first small tortoiseshell in my garden today. I take that as a symbol that things are going to improve.
