I wrote this on Twitter last night:
It is the most basic of all freedoms that we have the right to decide. Descartes argued that this was the essence of being. Viktor Frankl was living testimony to it being all that is left in extremis.
It is my suggestion that we have to exercise that right. Indifference is not an acceptable option in the face of wrongdoing.
Sajid Javid is deliberately blaming those working in the NHS for failings that cannot be of their creation, but are of his making, or were created by predecessors in his office from his own party.
Worse, he is stoking animosity towards those who are doing service in the NHS as a result of which I suspect many of them will suffer. There will be many who will endure anguish as a consequence. I fear there will also be physical harm.
This is unacceptable. We have the right to say so. We should. I am.

It’s simple really.
Javid I understand comes from a banking background – the sort of banking that thrives on chaos to change the power dynamics, and ownership attributes as well benefactors.
His confidence in his ploy is because he knows that enough damage has been done already and that the party has deep pockets and the MSM in their back pockets. He has already been bought and is therefore insulated from the effects.
There is still an element of risk in all of this of course, but the Tory tool box is full of sharp implements and I think they’ll get away with it, especially if Labour and its morons see this (as Timothy Snyder would say) as ‘ inevitable’.
So here we are – the witnesses of the rolling back of our own social history.

My views:
Richard’s pages are filled with examples of the Tory attacks on our public sector institutions and on civilians (e.g. “Freedom Day” and the consequential high Covid infections and death rate). However, the British tabloid propaganda is reminiscent of Nazi propaganda in Germany in the early 1930s (Hitler took power in 1933, so before the concentration camps appeared in the early 1940s). For instance, the German population believed the propaganda on radio and in the newspapers that they were the victims of the Treaty of Versailles after WW1 and that social Democrats and Communists deserved prison and worse. But no one could protest. All opposition was suppressed. There are similarities in the propaganda but we still have freedom of speech. So why is the British so supportive of this harmful Government?
Ideology supported by powerful media has massive impact and should not be ignored or underestimated. The ideology of the present Conservative Government needs to be critically analysed and defined. I believe the central issue is self interest of financial ownership and power to exploit others. This government has always owned the propaganda because the media are owned by the wealthy and there is no effective, opposition. As I said, we live in a democracy so unlike Germany in the 1930s, an opposition can exist here but doesn’t at present. If all UK intellectuals with a genuine conscience and will to achieve change participated in discussions such as on these pages, and also pressurised their opposition leaders, we may see some positive results.
The British “middle and lower classes” are being attacked but just ask for more punishment. Those with intellectual ability to protest must act through political opposition as well.

Me again . I wonder if those that are comfortably off now . Retired good pensions property worth a lot . Kids been to uni etc . Believe they are too posh to be working class . Is it snobbery ?? I wasn’t going to say this but I fear it is .

I don’t believe the NHS is perfect and I’m not knowledgeable enough to know how it should change but through a combination of personal experience and talking to some people who work either in hospitals or in management the NHS needs to change it is no longer fit for purpose. That is not to say its poor at everything it does but much doesn’t work. In terms of funding the last I looked at a OECD report UK spending on health care was comparable to other rich nations but lower maybe bottom third as opposed to top third where U.S. is a complete outlier. So IMHO the issues are not simply related to funding.
