It’s a defining moment really when we realise (and too few realise it seems) that the ‘low tax’ regimes we’ve been living under have just allowed the rich to become even richer to the point that they can buy politics even more and destroy the notion of ‘democracy’. And treat the planet as their playground (Mr Bezos please note).
This is what was really meant by re-distribution – not giving rich tax income to the poor, but the rich stopping Government’s from helping the poor with Government money using a false Neo-liberal narrative and deep pockets , thus feeding the greed of the rich to have it all, including cheap labour.
The rich have technically been given escape velocity from economics, the environment and society itself because they’ve been enabled to accrue riches beyond measure.
And everyone seems to have been blind to the dark side of money: Money is power and when it is allowed to be concentrated in too narrow a band of society, you will have trouble.
Sobering.
