Thanks I’d missed that.
That was sad but lovely. As opposed to the display by the flag waving Brexit party crowd, leave or remain that was just an embarrassment.
M.
I felt that too
Farage can now be consigned to the dustbin of history, along with his UKIP and Brexit Party colleagues, old and new, loyal and disloyal. May they rest in peace. The rest of us will clear up the mess they have left behind, including the Conservative (and Unionist?) wolves in sheep’s clothing. There is, however, no rest for the wicked.
You are right
I must be amongst the wicked
wishful thinking i fear, I doubt this will be the last we hear from farage
Terry, I doubt Farage and his lot will disappear, unfortunately. As life in the UK gets steadily worse, both due to Brexit and the atrocious politicians now in charge, there’ll be plenty of grievances for Farage and his fellow travellers to feed off, as well, of course, a desparate search for scapegoats to explain the failures of this wretched Brexit.
Up here in darkest Jockland we are aware that Auld Lang Syne is a very Scottish farewell song. Could it be that the European MEPs, who must have expended energy and time learning the words, were sending a particular message?
Also, and little reported by the media, the SNP MEPs left the European Parliament accompanied by a rendition of the Ode to Joy on the highland bagpipes. Very symbolic.
🙂
Europe singing auld Lang Syne with such conviction and warmth brought a lump to my throat..

the German MEP who printed & distributed the Auld Lang Syne words…
Minor interest point:
I found it interesting how many of the MEPs got the cross-over of hands correct ..!
That poll is interesting…
Good point Phil. I’m pretty sure that the rest of the EU would welcome an application from an independent Scotland to join the EU. When or if Scotland leaves the UK I’m not sure, but from my perspective in non darkest non Jockland I have a feeling it’s gradually getting closer. And I wouldn’t blame you.
The SNP MEP’s leaving the Parliament accompanied by ‘The Ode to Joy’ on the bagpipes? Great gesture. A fitting ripost to the display of petulant childishness and rudeness from the Brexit party lowlifes.
What generosity of spirit, shown to a country that hardly deserves anything but contempt from the rest of the EU. And as I’ve remarked here before, the UK is doing this on the positive wish of no more than 37.5% of those eligible to decide a question that was only asked by dint of David Cameron’s arrogance.
Its apparent Roy that many in the EU, despite the behaviour of our governments since 2016, genuinely regret the UK leaving because they believe in the ideal of a united Europe where countries co-operate to deal with difficult issues, rather than descend into warfare and nationalism.
I’d take issue with you saying the UK hardly deserves anything but comtempt. Certainly, there’s a portion of the electorate, and certainly the lying conmen who’ve brought this about, who deserve nothing but contempt from the rest of the EU; in fact they deserve nothing but contempt from the rest of us. It’s certainly how I view them.
On the other hand, the UK still contains millions of people who voted to stay in the EU, and have tried their best, often in the face of threats and abuse, to stop the Brexit disaster, because they know how bad it’s effects will be.
“Lying conmen”… ? Tell it like it is “Thieves, conmen…”

Yes, I take your point that many of us voted against this madness, and from that point of view the rest of Europe shouldn’t tar all of us with the same brush.
My jaundice at this situation is no doubt exacerbated by being Scottish (and residing in Scotland). I have just seen Ann Widdecombe on TV saying we should celebrate regaining our independence (or something along those lines). What I, and many of my fellow Scots will have heard is her acclaiming English dominance, and specifically the Conservative Party’s God-given right [or so they appear to think] to dominate UK politics from a minority position.
Until recently, I have not been an advocate of Scottish independence, but Brexit has changed my views, radically. As a public servant, the Tories have not only cut my salary in real terms over the last nine and a half years, they have cut my pay in actual terms. And plan to make me redundant within the next couple of years. Their espousing of Brexit mirrors this. They must know it will have seriously adverse economic consequences for the ordinary people of this country. They don’t care. Europe can no longer curb their lunacy.
If there is any good to be got out of this mess–besides an independent Scotland, Wales and a unified Ireland–it’s that any other countries of the EU which might be contemplating a similar move to ‘leave’ may think again, as they watch the UK going down the tubes, economically and socially.
Brexit will be an object lesson in what collective stupidity and ethnic intolerance gets you.
