According to the Guardian this morning, reporting the call from South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to remove the Confederate flag from the state building:
Haley had long defended the flag’s presence on statehouse grounds, declaring that its removal was not an issue because “not a single CEO” had complained about it.
So the offence to black people, civil rights or common decency don't matter; just CEOs do.
The Republican mindset.

The GOP is still reeling from the shock and indignity of having a black man as POTUS for the last two terms.
Do the right thing and take down the confederate flag. It surely will not cause deep and lasting harm to those wishing to display it.

She was talking in the context of bringing in jobs to South Carolina.
Besides, I don’t think this is a Republican v Democrat issue. Southern Democrats were, of course, broadly opposed to the Civil Rights movement. South Carolina did not have a Republican governor until after that time.
These facts may be inconvenient, but are true nevertheless.

So an offensive comment, at least in your view, rather than evidence of “the Republican mindset”.
Neither is Southern Democrat resistance to Civil Rights a reasonable brush to tar modern-day Democrats.
Assuming malice is not an attractive trait.
