This is a case of the tail wagging the dog – the Inclusive Capitalism Conference was essentially set up by the corporate sector.
As it says the Conference was set up by the ‘Initiative for Inclusive Capitalism’ (as well as the Financial Times)
The initiative grew out of a Taskforce set up Dec 2011- May 2012 in response to the financial crisis (and subsequent poor public perception of business). The taskforce was co-chaired by the MD of McKinsey& Co and Lady Lynn Rothschild and included some public sector corporate types.

This is run by big business. With this in mind, it is not surprising they invited who they did – a little more concerning that those invited, went.
I fear any outcome of this initiative may not be healthy for the public.
That I would call an attempt at corporate capture
There is a lot of this sort of thing about.
I think the biggest attempt at corporate capture out there is the monstrous Transatlantic Trade & Investment Treaty (TTIP) that Mr Cameron wants to sign next year.
Driven by the City of London through the Trade Commission and negotiated in secret between the US and EU this it is nothing about trade and everything about removing the so-called ‘non-tariff barriers'(regulations) to trade in services, which are regarded as ‘trade irritants’.
In other words regulations the UK has built up over time that protect the public in areas such as food safety, environmental safety, Health & safety, labour laws etc are being negotiated down to a minimum for corporate convenience.
On top of that corporations will be given the right to sue the UK in a special trade court at any level of government if following the treaty the public want to improve regulations. They will sue using the trade deal on the basis that affects their profits, regardless of social or environmental consequences
Any attempt at re-nationalising a privatised service in the UK following the deal will become impossible since companies are handed the right to sue for loss of profits and ‘anticipated’ profits. Privatisation of the NHS, railways, energy, local government functions or any public services will be unable to be reversed by future governments.
No Government working in the public interest would ever support this treaty the signing of which pretty much amounts to an act of treason as in effect it signs away our sovereignty over our own laws.
Yet all three main parties are in favour.
The claims of economic growth are nonsense and amount to a claim of 0.5% culmulative growth by 2027, the side affects ignored. The claim of massive job creation has no basis. The claims are written by think tanks sponsored by industry.

Sorry to rant on Richard and forgive me if it is not relevant to this topic but I am really angry about this. Its such madness. And nobody seems to know about it!

Do not despair, Louise, many of us are well aware of TTIP. I have it on good authority (Labour MP talking at PCS conference fringe event) that even John Healey, chair of US/UK All-Party Parliamentary Committee, is changing his tune. It wasn’t so long ago that he was lauding TTIP in the Guardian. Monbiot wrote a great article a few months ago and Linda Kaucher was given a platform on the Keiser Report recently.

Corporate capture is followed by Opposition Capture. The forces which should be opposing corporate capture are being recruited into being a tame opposition so that things can go on as they have but give the appearance that they are being opposed. Orwell wrote about this in 1984 with Goldstein being the enemy of the state but he was probably a fiction created by the Party.
Cameron says the EU is too bossy but as Louise points out above, it seems that it doesn’t matter about surrendering rights to the TTIP who will be very bossy. Or am I getting too cynical?

Yes, Richard, it looks like a build-up meeting to the Bilderberg conference starting tomorrow.
I don’t think these people have a clue to what extent trust has been eroded, they clearly see that last ten years as a piddling little event that requires a bit of sickening condescension to correct. If Prince Charles is as concerned about the environment he should have nothing to do with this. Lagarde, of course is a ghastly harpy of the austrian school, Clinton-the best Republican Democrat America has ever had and Carney is a great housing bubble blower and fire sale seller of Russian Assets. The whole thing is the mother of all oxymorons.
