I note in the Telegraph story about HSBC in Jersey that it is said:
The Telegraph has established from public records that HSBC has opened bank accounts in Jersey for several people who are wanted by the police or have serious criminal convictions.
With respect to the Telegraph, I don't think so: you can't prove who has a bank account from public records, especially in Jersey.
So who did leak this story? For the record, it wasn't me or anyone I know.
So, was it the leaker?
Or HMRC?

Yes and who leaked it to the press? – I hope that this will not predjuice any police investigations now.
I would say that in this day and age, it could very well be a disgruntled employee.
It could open, potentially, and in my opinion, the flood barriers. This could be the first of many… especially if HMRC offer cash incentives.
Lets face it, it could be anybody connected with this whole affair who is sick to the stomach of all the hypocrisy surrounding tax haven tax evasion and their employers role in. That goes for HSBC, HMRC, auditors, tax advisers and anybody else involved.
HMRC have been offering cash incentives for information for a number of years and its not made a great deal of difference. Hopefully its the changing climate towards tax evasion and the role of banks and their lickspittles the auditors that is making the difference.
With respect to the punters at HSBC Jersey who’ve been evading tax, under the Lichtenstein Disclosure Facility ushered in by Hartnet its probably still not to late for them to switch funds to lichtenstein, get immunity from prosecution, see their liabilities restricted to the last 10 years rather than 20 and pay a 10% penalty rather than the 50% some of them will deserve. The punters will have to be stupid or very unlucky to get prosecuted. Such is the justice of the UK system.

Could this be a misreading? The public record may be that of the list of the criminals. This would then imply that the telegraph has the HSBC list.
