Jersey: the future of its financial services industry is secret

Posted on

Jersey Finance has issued a press release on the future of financial services in that Channel Island. It says, amongst other things:

Whilst the quality of the Island's regulation is highly regarded, Jersey's regulatory framework would be even more attractive to investors if it was more market focused.

That set alarm bells ringing, so I tried to download a copy of the report.

You can't.

So I rang Jersey Finance and asked for a copy. I can't have it. I'm not a member.

I asked to speak to the Chief Executive, Geoff Cook, as the press release invited me to do. He was not available. He has not called back.

What do I conclude? Simply that the future of Jersey's finance sector is secret.

No change there then.

And since everyone agrees that transparency is the future, that's another nail in its coffin, no doubt.
