People have been asking me how the book is going.
My final edits went to the publisher yesterday.
That does not mean that all work is done yet, of course, but progress is good. The Courageous State should be out in November.
And this is the cover:

Was it Wellington or King Frederick of Prussia who said that the most difficult decision a General had to make was when to retreat and in what direction? The trouble was others, notably politicians and ambitious subordinates who wanted just to charge. Is the UK’s best bet in the way things are going to “cut and run”.
Remember The Lines of Torres Vedras.
No doubt signed copies of “first editions” will be better than money in the bank.
Booking my copy now.
How much? Is it free to regular contributor’s to this board? (hint, hint). 😉
There will be a discount…
Away yesterday so only just seen this. Looks good, Richard. Very well done. A good companion to ‘Ill Fares the Land’ I suspect, and a prescription to many of the issues Tony Judt raised. A great pity he’s not still alive to review it.
I really doubt I stand comparison but would have loved to know what he thought….I hope it does lead on from the point he reached – especially in its policy prescriptions to which 25,000 words are dedicated unlike the usual few pages in most books
40 percent? 🙂
Glad to see everyone involved took MY advice about the cover…seriously, it looks impressive. I wonder…does anyone out there have access to and can they leak Tim Worstofall’s already written review of TCS?
Tim who?
Any thing that Worstall writes is usually long and worstofall boring.
Almost as long and boring as some of his readers “Comments”.
Must amuse somebody – mostly Americans apparently.
Or perhaps Portuguese academics not.
So not difficult to predict his “review” then.
Saves the bother of having to read it.
the cover looks a bit morbid……….not very colourful is it !
Have you noticed the state of the economy?
Make sure its on Kindle!
It will be – indeed, that’s where I expect it will sell most
