This data comes from the really useful US-based Strength in Numbers Substack. It shows all opinion poll results in the USA in the last week on the issue of support for Trump's war on Iran:

Look at the data: only with the Fox News audience can Trump get a draw when it comes to support. Everywhere else, he is losing badly.
So, for how long can he wage war without popular support in the USA? I suspect the answer is for much less time than he needs, with that time horizon getting much shorter as the economic impact of the war hits US consumers and savers.
Trump has embarked on a venture he may not be able to see through.
And do not doubt that the US economy will see those impacts. The US economy shed 92,000 jobs in February, as this chart from the New York Times shows:

Trump is failing to deliver jobs, which is a key measure for the US economy, as the Biden era shows. Trump is a President running out of road, which is why he is at war.
The economic ramifications of this war will be enormous. I think Trump may live to regret this.

“I think Trump may live to regret this”…. I fear this won’t be true – the ramifications of this intervention will reverberate around the region and globe long after he is (and probably you and I are) gone.
You may be right.
We are still suffering the ramifications of the CIA/UK inspired coup removing Mossadegh in 1953 so there won’t be many of us left when this blows over
Accepted
Somehow Trump will be raking it in, he may lose his next presidential bid but he’ll still walk away a very rich man. It is the latter that needs addressing.
His 19 year old son allegedly bought $30m of oil just before the war was launched…
I don’t have any outrage left. Well, I do, but I’ve lost sight of anywhere to direct it. Wherever I look, it’s a complete fubar. I don’t know if I feel like this because I’m getting old and my values no longer fit in with the world, or whether it’s because the many and varied jobs I’ve done over 40 years have now proved worthless.
16 years in the RAF spent defending what were then Western ideals. Hoping to stop the tyrannical Soviet regime from starting a world war, only to watch a tyrannical, unhinged U.S. President and a maniacal, genocidal Israeli PM kick it off all in their own.
10 years working on acute psychiatric wards hoping to improve the lives of people with minds torn apart put themselves back together again, only to watch successive Governments rip up mental health services and leave desperate people in torment.
Trump has indeed made a monumental fuck up. Hegseth isn’t even housetrained. Witkoff is a bloody estate agent and Kushner is profoundly corrupt – they are the individuals sent by Trump to “deal” with the Iranians. They betrayed the Iranians. They will betray Ukraine. (Btw, Jonathan Powell was at the Geneva Ukraine meeting; despite being on Blair’s “Expert” list at the same time. Who was he representing?)
So Trump’s electorate may be against the war. The UK electorate certainly is, as it was against the genocide in Gaza. But who is actually listening? No one.
Many rthank for sharinhg, Hannah.
I share your weariness. That weariness is, though a threat. It reduces our resistsnce to the threats we face.
Live in hope.
Go well, and thanks.
It is important to tell the difference between wariness and weariness – OK?
It is OK to note what is going on in the world – particularly when it is bad (wariness) but weariness (fatigue etc.,) is another matter and it is hard to deal with evil and stupidity when you are knackered. Recharge and re-engage like they do in the army – R & R.
I will finish by saying this: as much as it is tragic that Trump and Israel are doing what they are doing, their lack of modesty and fanaticism will bring them down.
Thanks
The truth is that Trump was forced into this war by Netanyahu, who made it clear he was going to attack Iran with or without US support. Marco Rubio admitted as much recently. The weird thing about this is why Israel is telling the US what to do rather than vice versa.
Agreed
Epstein seems to be all over this. Someone, somewhere, has all the information in one place. When they decide it’s time for Trump to go, maybe we’ll see some light. I don’t pretend to understand all of the economic stories (I try, believe me) but I find huge reassurance in your blog content about hope and peace. It is also reassuring that so many people agree with you.
Thanks
Think Mossad
Absolutely – they are probably blackmailing the Orange Emperor, maybe with Epstein papers…
Nowhere is safe from DJT the personification of right wing fanaticism. A fascist made in America. An outright misoqynist bully who has gotten where he is today because nobody would stand up to him (the banks could have and should have destroyed him but they massaged his ego instead). Greenland, Denmark, Mexico, Canada, Cuba, the rest of South America etc, etc, etc. Hoorah for the Spanish PM who sees the reality of Trump and tells it as it is. As for Starmer – a knighted nobody, his lack of courage, conviction and clear thinking makes him dangerous indeed. More proof that the honours system is not fit for purpose.
I’m wondering whether a desperate Iranian regime with no “off ramp” will try to buy a nuke from North Korea and go out with a bang.
I also worry about the acts of terrorism we may see in future as sympathisers and agents of the regime seek revenge on the USA, Israel, the Gulf states and indeed the UK.
Remember this story though?
I think that plan is for the USA to be at war with someone come November so that Trump and his backers can cancel or at least rig the mid-terms:
