Tom, who is both my younger son and a videographer, noticed it was an abnormally clear night here in Cambridgeshire last night. This was taken at f/1.2 for 1 second at ISO 6400. You might have to blow up the image on your screen. Then you will see just how many stars there are. Tom went out onto the fen, a mile or two out of town, to get the image and avoid light pollution.

Many years ago I was in a garden in Kilmington – outside Stourhead and was able to look up and see the Milky Way
Amazing!
I was lucky enough to do a round the world Yacht race (BT Global Challenge 2000/1), and it was an awesome spectacle at night from the middle of the ocean. The southern hemisphere has a better view of the Milky Way, and was simply stunning. We also had a few nights of the Aurora Australis which was amazing.

A whole second without a Starlink satellite intruding on the exposure! What are the chances?
