If people were given a straight political choice in the UK, right-wing parties would never win elections.
A new opinion poll from YouGov provides the evidence.

In essence, in straight fights, the more left-wing party always wins, assuming the LibDems are more left-wing than Labour these days, which I think is a fair assumption to make. I call the LD vs Green result a draw. Statistically, it is.
So what is the problem? It is our electoral system.
And Labour will not give us proportional representation, which is the only way they have any chance of retaining just about any political presence in Westminster anymore.
In the long list of political acts of self-destruction that the world has seen, this one by Labour is going to rank right up there as a chosen act designed to end their own party's chance of retaining any political relevance.
And yes, I know the SNP and Plaid Cymru are not considered. But I think we can safely extrapolate the outcomes.

You would only introduce PR if you believe in collaborative rather than adversarial politics. The only Labour politician demonstrating this at the moment is Andy Burnham and the current Labour party seem to hate him.
Locally I see the LDs,Greens and independents work very effectively together with mutual respect. However Labour won’t participate in any way, and in Exeter the progressive alliance stands as opposition to Labour.
PR and collaborative, consensual politics that listens to people is the only way forward. Ignoring this will result in the death of the two main parties who have dominated our politics in my lifetime.
Labour have lots of form for not playing well with others. This is exemplified by the Bain principle.
Straight fight?
Agreed, never in a month of Sundays.
And then add in the funding by rich racists and non-domiciled billionaires.
“And Labour will not give us proportional representation”.
If in the May elections there is a proper LINO wipe out (fingers of one hand seats) – this could “adjust attitudes” within LINO as the realisation dawns that it is a case of electoral reform or… oblivion. My own preference is no LINO. The party is filled with horrible people (and criminals) & one or two “good apples”. Corbyn tried to reform it, utterly failed.
Labour delenda est.
One thing to bear in mind, that poll is, I presume, a national poll, so local results may vary significantly. Adding up all the local variations may not end up in the same overall result.
However, I am still really quite heartened by that poll. It’s one of the more optimistic things I’ve seen in recent weeks, thanks!
