I am out birdwatching, although that may not be obvious from the amount of blogging going on.
I am sitting in the window of the cafe at Welney watching what birds there are through the snow and blogging when the snow obliterates the view:

There are around 2,000 pink-footed geese in the distance in that photo, but you will just have to take my word for it. I can't see them in the picture either - but they are out there. So, now you know why I am blogging as well.

Same here – snow on the tops though in Derbyshire, albeit turning to rain and mud.
As regards binos – 10 x 42 or 10 x50 for birding?
I use 8×42. The trade off is weight. I like the balance.
The geese are in the sunlit uplands.
Next Richard will be telling us the benefits of Brexit are just over the horizon.

Yesterday I rode on the number 65 bus from Buxton to central Sheffield (and return) – it went a very country route, through Foolow, Eyam, Great Hucklow, Litton, Tideswell, Stoney Middleton etc and via Fox House and Dore Moor. A really scenic journey (one and a half hours or more each way) especially with snow on the ‘Edges’ and higher ground. In places the verges were lined with snowdrops. I saw no birds – just some sheep, cows and a horse. A worthwhile outing especially with my ‘bus pass’! The way that the driver manoeuvred through narrow country lanes and through the villages where the street is lined on both sides with parked cars was admirable. I took no photos (the windows were rather dirty from the weather) but thanks for your photo – it looks very relaxing amidst the blogging.
Thanks, Susan.
I know that route. I returned on it once from a walk out of Sheffield. I did not get to Buxton, but I can imagine the pleasure.
First birds of my day were 3 magpies sitting in a tree – 3 for a letter? No post today because it’s Sunday. Followed by several parakeets. More magpies, sitting on the top of the street light just down the road from us. Some pigeons and the inevitable crows. Oh, saw a lovely goldfinch sitting on the telephone wire outside my bedroom window.
Heard sparrows, but didn’t see any. From watching them for several years now, they nest under the eaves in next door house. And the house next door to that has a nest under their solar panels!
We have sparrows nesting in a tree by our front wall… The tree is gradually dying off, so when it gets too thin to keep we’ll try to replace with a bush that’s of similar size so hopefully the sparrows will build new nests in it. John (husband) fancies a hawthorn bush, which I hope we’ll get with white flowers.
I have hawthorn – and sparrows do like them. Enjoy birding. Your patch sounds good.
