They need to rule a line through “Prince”.
Nice!
Certainly we should be concerned about the women and girls who have suffered – as well requiring the rich and famous to behave honourably.
Also we know that Andrew did not choose to be born ‘royal’. The ‘love life’ of British royals has been checkered.
• Edward VIII – Mrs Simpson He was forced to abdicate.
• Princess Margaret – Group Captain Peter Townsend. He was posted to Belgium. She was told that “she would have to renounce her right to succession, her annual [salary], her HRH title, and status as a member of the Royal Family.”
• Charles – Camilla [when young] – married others.
• Charles – Diana – married but however hard they may have tried to make it work, Diana eventually said “there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.” [BBC Panorama interview 1995]. They were divorced in 1996. Diana died in a high-speed car crash in 1997. *Newspapers/journalists* were hounding her. Prime Minister Blair awarded her the posthumous title “the People’s Princess, in honour of her charitable work and her popularity with the public.”
• Harry – Meghan Markle – have suffered plenty of criticism.
• Andrew
– has had details of his less-that-blameless life blazoned round the world. [I would not want details of my failings to be published for all to see.]
– has lost his position and reasonable expectations of some privacy, his home and, no doubt, money. His conscience will be troubling him.
Given that he behaved badly – he has now been punished.
I haven’t forgotten the women and girls but … couldn’t we back off now? How would any of us cope with being branded ‘royal’ from birth?
Are *Newspapers/journalists* absolved of all responsibility for the suffering they cause?
Sorry for sending an inaccurate and grumpy comment.
I love what you are doing and wish Dorset was nearer to Cambridge. At least the full range of talks in Scotland are on-line.
Clearly wealth rarely ‘trickles down’. Here’s hoping that ideas such as you propose will readily flow across the border to our government – even to the City of London.
Thanks you for being so inspiring.
Joe
Thanks Joe, and for all your comments
