I am proud to write for a newspaper - The National - that puts this on its front page.

Most of the media is ignoring the continuing devastation being perpetrated in Gaza by Israel.
Much of it mindlessly reproduces press statements from the Israeli government, which are intended to be deliberately misleading.
The National does not do that. Under the leadership of its exceptional editor, Laura Webster, for whom it is a pleasure to work, they have taken the courageous stance of calling out abuse and naming those responsible.
When I am asked whether the change is possible, I always say that it is.
When I'm asked for evidence that a difference exists, this is the sort of thing that I present.
In a world where compliance is required, uniformity is demanded, and dissent is punished, we must have a paper like The National that is willing to speak truth to power.

On this subject and on Scotland’s independence, it is a brave and lonely furrow the National ploughs. In a country split 50-50 on the independence question, it is the only newspaper advocating for independence.
I think the split is more than 50% for independence now.
I think you’re right, but with 37 of Scotland’s 38 newspapers screaming “nothing to see here”, people are hard pressed to find that out.
Agreed, entirely
[…] have, this morning, already praised the newspaper for which I write, The National, in Scotland, for speaking truth to […]
I am sorry to say but I can not remember reading a news paper. Most of the news I get from yourself, Naked Capitalism and other web sits. I do watch some of the news programs on the TV but have to be strong minded not to throw the book I am reading at it, I would hate to damage a book.
May I please put a shout out for Peter Oborne’s latest book “Complicit – Britain’s Role in the Destruction of Gaza”? It is a really excellent expose and fully annotated. The way that he is now being cold shouldered by the mainstream media in the UK is an absolute disgrace.
I really should read it.
Much like his excellent book “The Fate of Abraham”
Reading it now, alongside “Fraud”, about Starmer and McSweeney’s campaign/plot/scam to gain power (OR Books).
Fraud is a very important book. It’s long but very well written
You have sold it to me – I’ll take a look.
I do like the Irish Times as well though. One of the best parts about going to Ireland every now and then.
Kudos to the National… the silence about what is going on in Gaza is exactly the same in Canada.. there’s a ceasefire isn’t there…lets think about Christmas!…The Times of Israel ( no paywall) is a good place to discover what is going on.. not about the latest brutalities by the IDF of course but about ongoing protests around the world through the outrage expressed in the paper over supposed “anti-Semitism” There was much outrage expressed about a recent protest held in Central Station in New York where four men with masks resembling Netanyahu, Trump, Starmer ( can’t remember the fourth but it could be any western leader) sat at a table with a bloody tablecloth feasting on severed limbs. Yes.. pretty graphic but apt. The latest stage in Gaza, the possible ethnic cleansing is still to come. I despair for the world who wont even kick Israel out of the Eurovision song contest even though Russia was kicked out pretty quickly after invading Ukraine.
If this report is right then the media situation is about to get a whole lot worse:
