I woke late this morning. I can't recall the last time I woke after 8.00. Jacqueline decided I needed to sleep and let me lie in. I think she was probably right.
What is more, nothing I worked on yesterday is ready for publication as yet.
And, if I am honest, I feel the need for coffee and a walk, despite the weather, this morning. It's been a busy week, and I suspect ideas will flow once those two things are done. But right now, even though I know there are a few comments awaiting moderation that need to be thought through before publication, and other issues to address, I am taking a little morning time off. I trust you will excuse me.

As the saying goes listen to your body. On another note it is too much we ask (due to the poor state of the media) of you as a person to cover the news. Even though we use multiple sources these can range from individuals to larger groups. The times maybe hard, but it is still history repeating itself.
You should take as many breaks as you want. Your normal output is prodigious and burnout is a real risk.
No problem, Richard. Take more time off if you feel you need it.
Thanks for the Reeves critique. It is what I said at the time, and more of course. Your analysis is always worth reading. What you didn’t mention is that Starmer is partly responsible for this, as he appointed her. He needs to go, too.
Richard, you don’t need to apologise. For everything there is a season -or at least a time. It is time to rest and refresh.
You will be better for it.
I’m a few months older than you, also inclined to very early starts, and feel the accumulated impact. I read and watch your work almost every day and, being highly curious about economic reality, I’m deeply thankful. Your output and energy is remarkable but, when the opportunity arises, please take whatever rest you need and look after yourself. I suspect in the troubled times to come you will have an even more important role in the future of this country, i.e. we need you to be healthy!
Noted, and thanks.
Enjoy your walk & coffee
We were going to Windsor today but turned back due to the weather so I now have some time to clean the bathroom…………
You are married to a Doctor so take her advice
I have.
Bout it has not stopped a morning of challenging discussion, in between pintail, pochard and murmurations of lapwings.
That walking / talking medicine is so powerful – essential physical and mental reflection combined.
Agreed
Doctors orders are doctors orders so you did the right thing, (but bear in mind if NHS privatisation continues at the pace it’s going a similar prescription would cost you about £400 so enjoy it while you can).
She’s my own private doctor 🙂
I count my blessings, in many ways.
Interesting development: Both Steve Keen and Stephanie Kelton are presenting “Economy for the Many” at the YourParty conference this weekend.

I am several years older than you and am currently visiting friends from ‘previous’ homes and haunts. Taking time out is so important whether with family or friends- those visited this week start from a 93 year old in a care home to a friend slightly younger than me and who has recently lost his wife- she once said to me how lucky I was to have known her husband for so much longer than she had as he and I have been friends since 1968 when both working on Paris. So for me, time well spent- but I have still been reading your blog – enjoy some down time!
Thanks Susan. By 11 I was noting down ideas for blogposts.
Although I look forward to your evening email eagerly – it is the highlight of my day – you must take care of yourself.
Thanks on both counts.
Happy wife, happy life.
Take all the breaks that Dr J recommends…. we can hardly keep up with you, and all we have to do is read !! 🙂 🙂
