Everyone tells you that if you are a social media creator, you should not spend your life looking at your statistics. However, if any such creator tells you they do not, then I suggest that you either do not believe them or that you ask them how else they get an indication of the value of their work, because talking into an empty void has, in my opinion, little real worth.
So, as someone who has now produced data for 50 years, of course, I look at my statistics, and yesterday produced this most satisfying outcome, as far as I am concerned.
That is the chart of monthly reads of this blog since it was redesigned and renamed near the beginning of 2023, when the rate of readership exploded. Since then, we have never had a month with more than 900,000 views, and it is apparent from the chart that this happened in July. Last month's figures surpassed the previous record set in March this year.
Of course, the number of days in the month has an impact, but even after adjusting for this, July was our best ever.
So, thank you very much. It would appear that I am not speaking into a void. I appreciate that.
Meanwhile, as Thomas pointed out when I noted this, suggesting we may get more than 9 million views this year, which would be a substantial increase over last year, the likelihood is that we will get over 25 million views on YouTube over the same period, and maybe more. The message that something better is possible is getting out.

Excellent, well done. The trend is definitely upwards and may it continue on that trajectory
Out of interest, can you get statistics for other social media creators? Or is it confidential to each creator?

I have never seen reliable data. I choose to publish mine.
Congratulations. 🙂
YouTube should continue to drive new blog readership, the sign posting has improved. Hopefully blog engagement trends are as positive e.g. average time per visit.
The spillover from YouTube to here and vice versa appears to be very small, although we are improving the signposting, as you say.
There are viewers in this world and readers and and ne’er the twain do meet.
Even if there’s little first degree crossover, the readers are telling the viewers and vice versa. In my world the older readers are telling the younger ‘check out the YouTube channel’ and hopefully the YouTubers are telling their aged parents – who think it is all in their imagination – ‘he’s your age – there’s a blog’ 🙂
This is a guess. What do your offspring think? How can we best talk both ways across the generational divide using social media?
My sons have a lot of friends who watch the channel, and a few who read the blog. But, interestingly, the channel has an older viewing profile than most channels.
Oh I hope so.
And well deserved – what a team!
Murphy & Son: Purveyors of Critical Thinking to the British People (founding date?).
June 2005, bit the sons arrived in the business later.
And son number 1 might be joining now…although ideas are not firmed up as yet.
Well done. Gary Stevenson thinks you’re doing well also. Don’t know if you’ve seen this but he’s very complimentary about your work just prior to 23min on this long vid. https://youtu.be/6awZT5qlSLc
I have seen it.
