It has, for all sorts of reasons, been one heck of a week.
I am not complaining. There are a great many things about the way in which I now work that I enjoy, even if I do not seem to have significantly reduced my working hours since my technical retirement.
That said, I might need a little downtime over the weekend. I think I might need a moment where I don't look at the computer quite as often as I do during the week, and if moderation takes a little longer than usual, I apologise.
Likewise, if there are fewer posts than usual today, that's because I am boosting the batteries by reflecting rather than writing. Sometimes it has to be done.
Thanks for reading this post.

Retirement is to be enjoyed, enjoy.
Can I make a suggestion?
I think that your current series on wealth needs more room to breath – perhaps consider releasing less output around it? To make it stand out, compete less with other output?
It’s just a thought.
Enjoy the downtime.
I have too many ideas to do that
But it will get more attention over time…
As we in the global Art of Hosting and Harvesting conversations that matter community advise, when using the Four Fold practice, (https://www.chriscorrigan.com/parkinglot/a-simple-way-to-explore-the-four-fold-practice-of-the-art-of-hosting/) it is essential that you first host yourself. So Richard, time to host yourself well this weekend, before you can host others with your work!
The need to walk around is very high
I am 69 and not retired yet.
I’m fortunate to do work that brings me a sense of achievement, and I walk four miles a day.
I had a major health scare in 2024 and resolved to look after myself better.
The work you do is needed and valued, Richard.
That’s why I look agter myself
And have lost 10kg this year…
Just a reflection about the weight loss if you’ll allow me … there is a danger that weight loss can be muscle loss if it is not accompanied by sufficient weight bearing and weight lifting activity to ensure the retention and development of muscle strength. There’s a condition called “skinny fat” which is self explanatory really. I speak from experience of adopting a keto and intermittent fasting diet about three years ago (I am a little older than you) and have made a real effort to keep up physical work as opposed to “exercises” to counteract the need for a fairly sedentary life in front of a computer screen.
I am carefully monitored by a very keto aware GP, who I am married to. She thinks I am doing it correctly. But, thanks.
Enjoy your down time over the weekend.
But could I ask you and all others to watch this latest segment from Lawrence O’Donnell. I cover – as he has for most of the week the Epstein/ Trump issue. But one thing O’Donnell has done with every segment is bring the story back to focus on the girls (and if you believe some of the stuff, boys) who were assaulted by Epstein – Trumps big buddy of at least 15 years.
This segment starts with an analysis and discussion of the lawsuit Trump has now issued, but goes beyond that. It is both insightful in the extreme, excoriating of Trump, but also moving.

If you don’t watch or listen to anything else on this topic this week, watch this.
I did
I appreciate all he said
He is right: Trump only cares about himself
But there is much, much more to this
And as you say, there will always be the people who paid the price that those who abused them just did not care about
Periods of seemingly fruitless darkness may in fact highlight all the ways we rob ourselves of wisdom by clinging to the light. Who grows by only looking on the bright side of things?

In a comment on YouTube below your latest post in your Wealth series (which is excellent – thank you!) someone suggested you get together with Gary Stevenson of Gary’s Economics, who as I’m sure you know campaigns to tax the wealthy a lot more. I agree that one or more discussions between you both would be fascinating – of perhaps around an hour each. This would obviously take a lot of preparatory work, discussions, scoping and scripting, so obviously can’t happen overnight!
I hope you are also in discussion with the putative new political grouping forming around Zarah and Jeremy?
As teams, we are talking….
I am open
I hope Gary will be
Down time and relection are essential. I find going to bed, knowing there are ‘choices’ to be made, it’s great to take time the following morning to review everything; then, there seems to be greater clarity. What was a muddle is, for me, often reduced to the essential, the night and rest has thrown out the noise. Good luck with thinking and reflection, it will allow the peace of mind that ‘events’ destroy.
Thanks
I’ve been birdwatching in the rain – and have been rewarded with a bittern
I have been out bird watching in the rain like you, Richard. I was also rewarded, by being bittern, midges and cleggs! The joys of living in the Highlands.
Enjoy the restorative joys of nature.
As I write there’s a reed bunting in front of me and those baby swallows to the left.
[…] However, that has been well covered by others, and most especially of late by MSNBC, to whom Ivan Horrocks has drawn attention in the comments on this blog quite a number of times, and appropriately so. Nothing can take away […]

No
