Recognition of Palestine?

Posted on

I suspect Keir Starmer was not happy that President Macron of France said this to both Houses of Parliament yesterday, referring to Gaza:

As we are attached to human lives, as we are attached to territorial and integrity, we want a ceasefire, no discussion.

And today, working together, in order to recognise the state of Palestine and to initiate this political momentum is the only path to peace.

Three things. First, Starmer clapped, but I do not take that as an indication of commitment.

Second, does a two-state solution really make sense when what is Palestinian is not defined?

Third, if recognition does, however, mean that Israel is engaged in an illegal war against Palestine and resulting measures are taken, including full economic sanctions as called for by Francesca Albanese to the UN, then this might have some substance.

But, I am probably living in forlorn hope.
