As I say in my National column this morning:
SCOTLAND needs to welcome migrants with open arms. Unless it does so, the economic future of the country is bleak, and the outlook for those who might at some point be in need of help and support is dire.
Whatever the racists in the Conservative Party, Labour and Reform UK might say, Scotland needs a strong inward migration policy linked to a whole raft of social and economic policy measures that will equip the country for the future.

Scotlands Total Fertility Rate – births per woman is 1.3
For a stable population the rate is 2.08 so clearly something needs to be done.
Following in from this of course I suggest that we need to be treating children as a precious resource, not as we do at the moment which is for Government not to care about them
BBC Scotland is reporting a sharp rise in racist ostracism in schools. Brexit, Reform, intolerance, weak investment, and Neoliberal economic incompetence have become the leading dividends of Unionism.
Not only racists in the three main political parties. As I mentioned last week, and this information comes straight from the managers, and care assistants of the private company that attend to my wife’s needs. The C/As are all black people, mostly from various African countries, some from the Indian sub-continent, and in my opinion do a good job, but I’m afraid from some of their clients, who are all getting free personal care at home, they are sometimes subject to racist remarks, and downright hostility. Almost unbelievable I know, but it happens.
Ho and have a “walk around” in Paisley where i am from and see what the locals think!! Nationalists or not you will not like what you hear..
You selected your audience
That is what bigots do
@Jamie,
I am not concerned about what locals think. They have the righ the think any think thay choose to think.
What I am concerned with is “WHY” they think what they think!
I deal with this in my area of Florida all the time.
Perhaps, there are racists everywhere, but I wouldn’t take their views seriously until they’ve taken over all the grubby, badly-paid and exhausting jobs that reply upon migration.
Unionist or not, you will not like what you hear!
Only by getting out from under England will Scotland be able to make decisions about immigration and everything else that normal countries contend with.
Until then, Westminster will continue to ignore Scotland’s needs – as always.
Children are the future for all levels (if some still insist on classing) of our world. Without a sustainable population our lives will all deteriorate. Xenophobia, racism are unsustainable and so are anti parent or family needs arrangements in workplaces, housing, education, health, social care, and disabilities recognition and support. The othering populace types might enjoy whatever thrill they get from it and perhaps a closer look at the effects of Trumpism might help. Whatever, any pollie wanting a bigger share of people willing to vote needs to address the well bein economy points above instead of the current scrwaming guff to some lowest common denominator that Labour libdems, tories and farage reform types are scrambling after.
