I got this in n email from the far-right Institute of Economic Affairs yesterday:
Do I need to say anything more, except to ask why it is that this organisation gets such prominence from the BBC?
Would you give a platform to David Friedman and his views?

Anarchy is a lack of hierarchy and capitalism cannot function without hierarchies.
The only way capitalism’s inequality can be upheld is with violence, which is provided by the government.
OMG!!!
Milton reproduced! Cue a famous painting by Munch.
‘Voluntary cooperation’ = coercion by those who have money power. He’s clinically insane. That is what Unions were about was it not, ‘voluntary responses’? As ever, voluntary responses to anything have to be voluntary responses to creating money, using unfair leverage.
You can tell that we are living in a time of great change when piranha’s like Friedman Jnr taste the blood in the water and feed on it.
What is most irksome is that there is no reflection, evaluation or accountability – just a doubling down on everything bad that has changed as the hyper-individualisation project which is just a rich persons dream of society continues.
A society that is just a shop window for the rich really.
I share your sentiments
Apparently one of the best recent examples of a state that was “anarcho-capitalist” was Somalia under its warlords in the 1990s and 2000s. One wonders why proponents of such a political system were not flocking to benefit from the freedom and prosperity it generated, rather than spouting their nonsense from safe jobs in academia or think tanks.
Agreed
“The state is an unnecessary evil”
Typical neocapitalism blaming others for its own shortcomings.
The last 40 years shows the evils of neoliberalism.
Profits before people, exploitation, environmental pollution, lack of health and safety, unaffordable healthcare, unaffordable water, unaffordable energy, and so it goes on.
As someone else has noted, “anarcho”-capitalism is not anarchist in the slightest. Anarchism is anti-State socialism, recognising that individual freedom without equality simply means selling your labour and liberty to a boss.
The “anarcho”-capitalist is not against hierarchies and simply want to privatise the functions of the State which they approve of (namely, defence of private property and power). Anarchists, in contrast, argue for the abolition of all social hierarchies, including economic ones. We are in favour of workers’ control rather than capitalist autocratic management, for example.
If you say so.
I have no time for anarchism, either way.
Worker’s control has turned out no better than capitalist control.
The problem is with the word ‘control’.
I assume this is where Trump and Musk are intending the US to head towards: the cuts to Federal Government services announced yesterday are absolutely massive and not being reported as prominently as they should be – but as usual Rachel Maddow has the details. Not only that, but deportations without any form of announcement. I’m not joking here but anyone thinking of studying in the US should SERIOUSLY reconsider. Anyway, watch and wonder and be seriously afraid – and this is the government Starmer is going to bend over backwards to brown nose to so that we get a less punitive tariff agreement. No ethics, no morals and no spine – Starmer the lickspittle.
Anyway, here’s the link: the segment is ‘Bloodbath…’ https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show
Starmer is hopeless
Freidman pere was a fraud. He was not, in any case a Noble laureate cos there is no Noble prize for economics. Just some idiot Swedish bank awarding a piece of paper in memoery of Alfie Noble.
I also have a Noble prize, awarded in memorey of Alfred Noble and awarded to me by my ex-wife …………..for raising chickens,
Thus I am a Noble laureate with the same Noble status as Freidman.
On this basis I would be happy to talk @ the IEA @ any time on chickens & anarchism, pecking orders, food preferences (where all tastes have to be catered for) and chickens, mice & rugby – anachism in action!. It’s quite fascinating.
I think I’ll go & have a lie down now.
The @BBC always imply that the IEA are some kind of authoritative ‘think tank’ , (they might occasionally say ‘right-leaning’ ) , despite the IEA not divulging where their money comes from . They are an ultra-right lobby group ( or maybe a ‘bribery group’?) – at the bottom of all league tables on transparency of where their money comes from and who do not say on whose behalf they are lobbying.
This is directly contrary to the BBC charter and to all editorial guidelines to enlighten , to speak the truth – etc
This means the ministry of truth BBC is colluding with the ultra right forces in our country. Far more disturbing than the ultra right itself.
