The experiment is in issuing this video in both long form and short form YouTube styles this morning, to see what the response might be in each of those formats.
Some might remember that when I began remaking videos, we tried making two videos a day. One was a long form video and the other one a short. That did not work well at the time, but since then YouTube has radically changed the way that shorts work. It is also now the case that other platforms are now seeking our content - for example, Spotify has just specifically invited us to post there. We need to know what to transfer.
So, please accept my apologies that we have done a small experiment today. The goal of this channel is to reach audiences above all else, which is why I do not ever wish to move towards paid models of access that will limit access to some based on ability to pay. It is also why we are going into a programme of trialling platforms again over the next few weeks to decide what, how and where we are best putting content.

The short is way behind right now – but that said, is going better than I expected. This is all a learning process.
As you do more shirts and upload to Spotify, TikTok etc, you’ll find that more are watched as I believe these sites serve more of your videos to people who have previously viewed you. Good luck with these and certainly concise snappy content for the shorts is recommended.

We spent ages discussing this today
Reaching new audiences is the key. Don’t get bogged down trying to please your regulars here (or get diverted by the trolls).
KUTGW!
I will always try to keep existing audiences happy
Thanks for caring so much and taking the time to get it right!
I never knew how much time this would take.
Famous last words, Richard
I can’t comment on the video, I’m afraid, as I don’t watch them (I read the transcripts instead.) But there are a couple of oddities on the blog page itself – e.g. where it says “You might want to watch this explanation of this video”, it looks like a link, but isn’t. In fact it’s not even normal text, as I can’t get a cursor into it. Is it an image for some reason? The same is true of “You can subscribe to this blog’s daily email here”, below the transcript – which on every other blog page is definitely a link.
The other odd thing is that the comments start at the top of the page to the right of the video, where you normally have your sidebar (which is itself displaced to the bottom of the page, below the comments). All the rest of today’s blog posts look perfectly normal, so I’m not sure why the video one has come out so odd. Or is it just me?
Weird. It works for me. Sorry…..
All fine here (Android phone, Firefox for mobile).
@Therese
Exactly as you described happened to me when i clicked on the ‘experiment’ blog, with the ‘experiment’ being all topsy-turvy… most disconcerting! But all the other blogs were normal.
However, that happened when I viewed the ‘experiment’ blog yesterday. When I clicked on it again in the wee hours of this morning (attending to 90 year old dad, and now I can’t get back to sleep) it was back to normal. Perhaps the experiment had a bit of bug or something, which has now been sorted?
I will have another look
Thanks, Sandra – indeed, I just checked and it looks fine for me now, too! Presumably just a temporary gremlin, thankfully.
I found a coding bug.
It must have only impacted some browsers, but I put it right.
A little bit of coding is amongst the other things I have had to learn here.
Thank you, Richard, your multi-faceted skillset is much appreciated!
