Before Starmer even got to the White House, Trump had upstaged him.
The release of the Tate brothers from Romania, with an apparent open invitation to fly to the USA, cannot be by chance on the same day that Trump is seeing Starmer.
For those not familiar with Andrew Tate, he is openly, proudly and profoundly misogynistic. His material is deeply offensive, and much of the cause of the rise in misogyny in young men in this country, which tendency is deeply worrying.
Both brothers also have open charges of rape, money laundering and people trafficking of minors are still open against them in Romania.
Some similar charges are on the table here in the UK.
Staggeringly, the BBC appears to be treating Tate's release as having as much significance as Starmer's talk with Trump.
What is happening? Why is it happening? Is this really all coincidence? I really can't imagine that is. This feels like a deliberately managed news agenda by the White House, which is one of the few places where I suspect these two have friends, to me.
Starmer is being made to look like a fool.

Starmer being made to look like a fool?
Not a difficult task in the circumstances!
Well, it’s a change from making himself look like a fool.
While I agree with most of your post, I cannot accept that Starmer is being made to look like a fool. Starmer LOOKS like a fool, he doesn’t need to be made to do so, he is perfectly capable all on his own. Indeed it is probably one of the very few things he IS capable of.
Well one Republican Governor knows right from wrong

And issuing an invitation from King Charles for a state visit to the UK!!!! It beggars belief that Starmer ( and the King )could sink so low.
Shameful.
The UK has to do business with whatever moron the US electorate chose. That they have chosen a narcissist with a fragile ego & one that is thus easily flattered is the only relevant point. State visit – why not if it keeps the mango chimp happy. In the meantime, the UK and the Euros should:
a) work out a new Euro security system – that is not NATO.
b) implement a made-in-europe for Europe weapons industry that avoids the “let’s reinvent the wheel” & keeps costs sensible
c) Take the Euro200bn of Russian assets and use for weapons and (mostly) rebuild.
This is all doable, would drive Mango crazy …….and he could do nothing about any of it. Nothing. Good. Don’t get mad – get even.
The USA has NEVER been Europe’s friend ever, not in WW1, not in WW2 and not post-WW2.
Points a) to c) are unlikely to happen – not least due to the siren voices of Americans saying that Trump will only be there for 4 years. Perhaps – but Trump is simply a symptom of US fickleness. Amercians cannot be trusted & only ever act in THIER interest – not Europe’s.
Trumps support of Andrew Tate is, like all his relationships, transactional. He wants Tate’s supporters and platform. Fascists need young men to be their enforcers after all. As for Starmer, he needs humiliating. The fact he is trying to appease Trump and not siding with Europe is pathetic and worrying and he needs a wake up call. It was American “dark money” behind Brexit, and there is American money behind the British far right movement. It looks like we may go down with the American ship at this rate.
There is something fake about the Tate brothers – loathsome though their agenda is – I have the sense that they are playing a role.
Exactly – upstaging is what Trump is about. In this interaction Starmer not having “TV charisma” may well be to his benefit. I don’t know anything about Mr Tate (apart from reports suggesting he is completely obnoxious) but I thought Starmer did the right thing by playing to Trump’s vanity and offering a meeting with King Charles.
There may not be any logic in having a monarch, but being able to exploit the fact to appeal to the vanity of a narcissist you can’t avoid dealing with does give it some value.
Whether the offer will bring a lasting benefit who knows, but with skill it can be used as the carrot in front of the donkey for some while yet.
Trump thinks it’s all about himself. Starmer mostly seems to let him think that. Trump loves being the centre of attention. I’d much rather we ignored him.
At least one of the Tates is wanted in the UK (by the authorities … ).
Surely tomorrow is an opportunity for Starmer to ask Trump to recognise and enforce the extradition agreement that exists? (As opposed to allowing US “security” personell to abscond after mowing down a motorcyclist outside a US base, whilst being previously unable to get the US to send wanted folk this way).
As far as I know, Congress refused to ratify the extradition treaty between the US and the UK.
We have been happily sending people over for about 20 years, e.g the NatWest Three, but they refuse extradition to the UK.
It is made worse by the US ‘justice system’ for want of a better phrase. You are better off pleading guilty, even if you are innocent, than going before a jury.
