After some debate between Thomas and myself over whether to make YouTube videos covering the Christmas period he persuaded me that we should.
His logic was quite compelling. A great many people will be very bored over the days to come and will be looking at their phones. He thought it was an ideal time to put out some videos. As a result, that is exactly what we will be doing.
Whilst there probably will not be many posts other than those relating to the day's video for the next couple of days, even that cannot be guaranteed. Whilst I have stopped other work until the New Year, and I'm more than happy to have done so, writing blogs and making videos just does not seem to fall into that category. They always seem much more like a hobby than work to me.
But if you don't want to read or watch, please don't bother. I am not expecting record views, but these days nothing on social media seems to work out the way that I expect.
Either way, thanks for your support. We appreciate it.

I shall look forward to the musings of a top political you before getting down to peeling the spuds and getting the roasting fat hot.
Looking forward to reading them as always Richard.
Hoping you and your family and all readers of this blog have a cracking Christmas and a very happy new year.
It feels a bit Christmassy around me right now
And the clan is gathered
Thanks – and all the best to you too
Thomas is right – people will be bored and looking for some distractions esp if the weather is dull & wet.
You are right – social media is unpredictable, who knows, you could go viral?!
I like the responses with references/links/sources to stuff I can go and read.
I’m going to write to Santa, and ask him to give Rachel Reeves a very well paid job offer somewhere she can’t do any more harm (perhaps chairing some charity caring for elderly and infirm international investment bankers). Likewise, for Keir Starmer, perhaps he could follow David Milliband into International Rescue (he’d make a great puppet – oh, sorry, wrong International Rescue).
Maybe tackle that favourite Yuletide question of economists; ‘Is Christmas actually any good for the economy?’.
May you, your family and indeed the Tax Research comments community share some priceless time with those you love over the coming days.
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Richard and also to all the readers/commentators on this blog.
Craig
Thanks, Craig.
Richard,
When you record the Christmas Day video, will you be wearing a Santa hat or a paper Christmas hat?!?!?
Have great Christmas day and a very Happy New Year!
Food for thought: You could do an open thread to allow us regulars to chat with our Funding The Future buddies without the worry of thread-jacking????
No way!
And open threads need massive amounts of moderation, so definitely not over Christmas where long walks will remain very much on the agenda here.
Richard,
Sorry about my suggestion as I forgot about this being an open access “Free-to-All” blog and having to monitor for trolls.
Have a wonderful holiday!
Thanks
And you, too
wishing you, your family and readers of your blogs a peaceful and relaxed Christmas
Thanks, Susan.
And to you.
Hope you and your family have a great Christmas. Thanks for all your blogs in 2024, daily reasoning and questioning of all the insanity around us. Look forward to more of the same in 2025.
Thanks, Darren.
Richard, I’m surprised that you haven’t linked to your talk tv interview – you gave him what for!
For those who missed it..,

The comments are sadly rather negative, but that’s just the usual 1000s of idiots
Why not promote it?
Because I did it in good faith to be faced by the person being rude to the previous guest and then to me, whilst delivering utterly ill-informed comments with the certainty that only a neoliberal half wit can.
Next time the6 call, they can forget it.
Now seems a good time to thank you for all the work you do. You are helping me to at least begin to understand how some money stuff works. I’m truly grateful.
I wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas. Best wishes from Liverpool, where I see the River Mersey is looking very calm, still reflections in its water.
Many thanks, Maggie.
Happy Christmas
