There is no video, again, this morning.
But we are planning to meet to organise a resumption of recording once the impact of the plague that has hit my household has passed.
This does include production of a series that will spread across Christmas and New Year, health permitting. Based on prior years, there is evidence of a very strong appetite for blog material over this period, and so we presume this might be relevant for videos as well.
Thanks for reading this post.

I’m sure it is on the list, but can you do an introductory video, to explain to people what you are all about, why they should be interested, and what they may get out of it. i.e. framing and context.
We have done that. But I do think it may need redoing.
When you’re out of chips I think every one including a top youtuber deserves a break.
I am taking a break over Christmas, except from social media. I enjoy that.
The lurgy has come to my place and laid us low – it seems to cling on too, not easy to get rid of at all.
Agreed
We made videos this morning and both felt whacked after an hour or so.
Get well.
Can you do something on the Waspi women funding (or lack of). This looks a shoo-in for an MMT analysis to me.
MMT Dora not explain such policy decisions
I meant is there a sound reason to say it can’t be afforded despite all the cabinet being full square behind it when in opposition.
It could be done
But, I genuinely question why?
I clearly recognise there was a loss – but I know a lot of woemn in the age group in question and all wonder what this is about
They all seem to think that this was an inevitable outcome of the gender equality debate
And of the claim was that these women did not know, they wonder how did they not know?
In that case what compesnation is due, and why need it be universal?
These are genuine questioins.
The Waspi claim is quite modest for most women I think – even the ones they feel most wronged are not asking for full restoration. So it’s not universal in that sense, more a spectrum.
I guess you could write something saying Starmer and co are right to kick this out (despite their earlier heartfelt support).
It is an issue I have not followed enough
And that means I tend not to write about it
Irrespective of one’s view on the definitive issue itself, the blatant hypocrisy of both gov & oppositionon WASPI is breathtaking. Similarly, for Labour stenographer, Polly Toynbee.
There’s an MMT angle to how she argues her case in her latest U turn article.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/dec/19/waspis-state-pension-labour-compensation
as compared with her opposition stenography in Oct 2019
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/oct/03/older-women-pensions-retirement-age
As an exercise, see if you can spot how many MMT issues are raised/relevant as she argues her case in both articles? Just for starters, “we can’t afford it” “taxpayers’ money” “means testing”
One has to admire the ease with which she swivels, a bit like an owl turning its head >180 degrees, you wonder why it doesn’t fall off.
Having protected herself, with the “we can’t afford it” armour/force field, she then in her U turn article, pretends to reveal her “radical” agenda, but of course Reeves is quite safe, because, although Polly would love to see all these radical changes, she knows that until the “new money” arrives (from “growth”), then we just have to be patient, because the sovereign government, the central bank, and that huge majority with >4 yrs left to govern are powerless to do anything.
So things stay as they are.
No, I don’t buy it either.
Get well Richard. I’m 10 years or so older than you and I know that in order to stay sharp, incisive and productive, health has to come first
Thanks Simon
I am definitely slowing down for Christmas now
Nine lessons and carols from Kings R4 3pm on the 24th – a good place to start
Regardless of the intricacies of the evidence re the Waspi women , the Labour Party are led by self-interested politicians. They could have scored some real points with a group of older women by forking out some cash and announcing the way they are “tidying up the mess the Tories left us.”
Yet, no , they made themselves look dishonest and hard-faced.
Either they are serially inept or they have some kind of longer term , Baldrickesque “cunning plan” to be whipped out just before the next election. No idea what it might be, though.
In the incompetence of Labour, I entirely agree.
Richard,
I hope you feel better soon. I was wondering whether a video explaining why GDP is used instead of GNI in media and official stats. Personally I would have thought how much income we’ve earned (National Income) as opposed to the value of what we have produced (Gross domestic product) might tell us something about the economy, how it has changed and is indeed changing. Your thoughts?
Let me think about that.
