I admit I said I was having some thinking time last week, and it's true that I was. I was also on holiday near Newport in Pembrokeshire, in West Wales.
All the week's videos were made before I went and then edited and posted by Thomas.
Everything else was written on the day, as usual: I don't sleep in much on holiday, and ideas never stop.
There was time for a lot of birdwatching. This little egret was quite special, and very close:
That was at the Welsh Wildlife Trust reserve in Cardigan, which has the best food of any bird reserve I have ever been to. It would be worth going for the cafe alone, but the birding also made it worth three visits, with much to be enjoyed.
Another robin grabbed my attention on a walk, this time near the coast:
Corvids seem to be big fans of Welsh beaches:
The weather was glorious:
Time was spent on the beach:
And:
And yes, we did go swimming - and it was cold, but fun.
I also learned a lot about making videos outside, but I did not make anything that will appear here, although the lessons might be used in the future.
Importantly, batteries were recharged. Now, it's back to work. I am speaking at the Scottish Currency Group conference this afternoon and have yet to prepare my notes.

Best week for weather all summer! Glad you enjoyed the “break”….. even if I never noticed.
The blog continues
The day jobs do not and they take up much more of my time
Always good to take a break!!
Nearly 20 years ago my oldest and I – he was about 4 then, went on a Rib boat trip out of the Teifi estuary and round the island at its mouth. It was a still hot day and absolutely magical watching the birds, bear in mind I am no birder
We had nit been here before and loved it.
No doubt the weather helped, but it was a great place to be, and it never rains al the time. As a birder, I know that is almost always true.
I’ll recommend a Spring trip west too, as the seabird nesting season on Skomer, Skokholm and Ramsey is April to June.
A day trip to Skomer is a must.
That sounds like fun
The B&W beach shot – the shapes are redolent of the scales of a fish. Nice.
I liked that one
I had a good B&W afternoon that day
What is there to confess about?
You know one of the lesser known gems of West Wales – Newport, Cardigan. And you had fantastic weather, bendigedig [fab]. Some great B&Bs there.
Regular short breaks are essential for improved health. I learnt that late in life.
I agree…
Snap!
Family gathering Lulworth Cove/Weymouth perfect weather sunshine – Kestrels hoveirng.
Excellent wildlife pictures. Keep them coming.
I live next door to the Wildlife Centre! Glad you enjoyed it, and hope you managed to find the cafe by Newport Beach. A regular haunt, particularly for the cake!
I did.
But Parrog had the best cafe.
