As I have already mentioned, I was away for a long weekend. I was in Chichester, a city I last visited many decades ago. I admit I had no recall of the existence of this chap, who is Chichester's very own saint:
This statue is outside the cathedral where he was once (about 1260) bishop.
My wife has always thought me to have no time for saints - and I admit her suggestion has some truth to it. She was, as a result, amused that I found this chap so interesting. He stood up for law and order and was not afraid to take on the king. I suspect we could have found plenty to disagree on, but he seems a lot more interesting than many of his ilk.
And if you are in Chichester, I recommend walking the canal to the sea - a bit over four miles each way. It is great for birds, has beautiful scenery, and is level - making it a really easy walk.

I could well have been in Chichester on Saurday because I was intending to go to a track day at Goowood but a look at the BBC Weather app put me off and I stayed home. Looks from your photos like I was right, although I guess the canal ones were taken in the afternoon which was better. I must say I used to wander around the city very regularly when my mother lived in Havant but never noticed that statue. In 1988 I organised a 4 day international conference based at Goodwood House which involved the use of 5 hotels for the delegates, one of which was right next to the cathedral.
The walk by the canal was on Sunday..
And the amazing Pallant galley made Saturday a good day in Chichester – and it did, indeed, stop raining later
Yes. I used to love the Pallant Gallery. I’ve also been to several shows at the Chichester Festival Theatre which is always worth visting. I’m planning to go to the district next week to reacquaint myself with the Weald and Downland Museum, of which a friend used to be a founding director, and try to find Singleton railway station. Lunch at The Fox Runs Free. And forget about economics!
