At the risk of being called a sycophant, Richard, that’s because your analysis and critique came early in the day (before most people had had time to think through the implications of this policy) and was both insightful and strongly, but logically, argued. As far as the sycophant label goes, I’ve been following Richard’s blog long enough to have had a couple of people call me a Murphy sycophant to my face. Many more probably think it. They’re welcome. Interestingly, Richard and I have never met, and apart from on this blog, have never discussed any issue in advance of Richard blogging on it. As you say, it just so happens that we are like minded people, and to be honest, Richard is a damn sight better – and far faster – at articulating many of the issues that matter to me. And, from what I’ve seen on this blog over the years, many, many other like minded people. There nothing servile about saying that, it’s simply acknowledging where praise is due – as it frequently is here.
We really must meet
