David Gauke, the Exchequer Secretary, and I have not always had a harmonious relationship.
In fact, on occasion he's been pretty robust when making comment about my work, and I think it's fair to say I have reciprocated.
So, I admit I enjoyed this, just received:
I make no further comment.

Congratulations .. and David Gauke doesn’t seem to be holding his nose whilst he writes his appreciation 🙂
what politician would not want to befriend a celebrity campaigner?! more seriously, when will they appoint you to HMRC’s board?
Well, I reckon you should ask him for a job. It may even help your application if you mention that you can bring in a spare calculator, as George Osborne has obviously lost his!
Nice work Richard, but what’s the betting that they use your work, but subvert it? It’s a major tory trick that they’ve used before with Labour policies in Education, Employment and housing..
Always a risk, yes
What was it that Cassius said? “You’re doing a great job Caesar, we’re right behind you”?
Looks like a standard letter to me – no doubt all the other members of the interim panel got one.
Are you applying for a permanent position on the Advisory Panel?
You may well be right
It’s still, well, amusing
I am not sure I could afford to do the permanent job. It is unpaid, for reasons that are surely designed to exclude all but high earning barristers and lawyers
You make a very significant point there, Richard. Something else to bring up next Monday?
In all my dealings with Government departments I have received what may be politely termed ‘generic’ letters and generic letters for ‘responding’ to your dissatisfaction with the first generic letter. I have been writing to my M.P to get generic letters identified as such – we need to remove the veil from illusory democracy!
Well done Richard, but watch your back, especially on the GAAR committee. There are several individuals on this, I wouldn’t trust!
