I calculate that the difference illustrated in this article between a graduate’s pay in the public v the private sector is about £1,000 p.a. As a graduate working in the private sector, I’d happily give up £1,000 p.a. for a job in the public sector – the lack of uncertainty, fat guaranteed pension, great holidays etc would make the loss of £1,000 p.a would be a small price to pay
