{"id":96489,"date":"2026-10-23T09:21:54","date_gmt":"2026-10-23T08:21:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=96489"},"modified":"2026-10-23T09:21:54","modified_gmt":"2026-10-23T08:21:54","slug":"the-scottish-currency-group-conference-tomorrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2026\/10\/23\/the-scottish-currency-group-conference-tomorrow\/","title":{"rendered":"The Scottish Currency Group conference &#8211; tomorrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I will be speaking at the<a href=\"https:\/\/scg.scot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Scottish Currency Group<\/a> conference in Dunfermline on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>I had hoped to be there in person, but major scheduled disruptions to train services, coupled with other demands in the run-up to the budget and the completion of my book, mean I cannot make it.<\/p>\n<p>I will, however, be taking part in a session at 2 pm when I will be discussing a new report by Professor Thibault Laurentjoye on currency options for Scotland after independence.<\/p>\n<p>That report is 160 pages long, and I admit that I have not had a chance to read it all as yet, but what I have looked at makes complete sense to me. It is published tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>This is the sort of work that Scotland needs to prepare itself for independence, not least to build confidence that all the planning required to protect the people of the country during the processes of change that will occur will be in place.<\/p>\n<p>I am confident that it could be.
