It is a governing signature. The midterm elections are now approaching <\/span>and nothing in the core diplomatic agenda has been delivered.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

The Israel-Hamas situation is inherently intractable; no president could have resolved it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n

That may be true, but Trump did not acknowledge intractability. He announced a deal in which Hamas would <\/span>disarm<\/span>,<\/span> and<\/span> omitted the precondition Hamas had publicly attached to any such agreement, namely Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.<\/span><\/p>\n

Israel's position on withdrawal has been consistent and well-known throughout. Announcing a deal while omitting its central unresolved precondition is not diplomacy. It is the performance of diplomacy<\/span>,<\/span> and the distinction matters enormously to the parties whose lives depend on the outcome.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Trump's style is unconventional but disruptive diplomacy sometimes breaks logjams.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n

Disruption is only productive if it produces a new settlement that holds. The Strait of Hormuz is still closed. Gaza is still occupied. The Saudi nuclear deal is in doubt. No logjam has been broken.<\/span><\/p>\n

The social-media revision of the Saudi agreement is the clearest case: adding a new condition to a signed deal via a tweet does not break a logjam<\/span>,<\/span> it destroys the credibility of the original agreement and signals to every future partner that any signed deal can be unilaterally altered the next morning.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

His domestic failures reflect Democratic obstruction and institutional resistance, not incompetence.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n
