{"id":89918,"date":"2026-02-10T08:19:37","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T08:19:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=89918"},"modified":"2026-02-10T08:19:46","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T08:19:46","slug":"vote-reform-get-tax-rises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2026\/02\/10\/vote-reform-get-tax-rises\/","title":{"rendered":"Vote Reform: get tax rises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2026\/02\/10\/the-politics-of-destruction-in-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">context of the post I have just made<\/a>, showing that Reform voters are very keen to cut state spending, it is really quite ironic to note that The Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2026\/feb\/09\/reform-worcestershire-council-tax-england-largest-rise?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is reporting this today<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Reform-led\u00a0Worcestershire\u00a0county council is likely to issue England\u2019s largest council tax rise this April after it was given special permission by the government to increase it by up to 9%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Worcestershire is one of a handful of authorities whose requests to be allowed to increase local rates above the standard 5% cap from April have been accepted by ministers.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"sign-in-gate\">I know there are claimed justifications for this action, based on past failures of local authorities in Worcestershire that have not delivered sufficient council tax increases over long periods, but the fact is that the whole basis of Reform's claims in local authority elections (given they cannot use migration as an issue in them) is that they will cut council tax bills by eliminating waste, this is deply ironic, and also enlightening.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As I have always suggested, they are just chancers at best, making random, unjustified and unbelievable claims to secure victory for their policies of destruction.
